Prayer Quilts

What is a pray quilt? Can you touch a prayer? Can you pull it close and feel its comfort? You can if its a prayer quilt.
The idea behind the prayer quilt is simple and powerful. A heavy thread is used to make stitches throughout the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied into a square knot. Upon completion the quilts are blessed during worship service.  Before and after the worship service, knots are tied at the altar rail where the quilts hang as silent prayers are offered for those in need. Requests for prayer quilts may come from individuals in need or from friends. The quilt is then given to that individual.
Each quilt is a reflection of God's love and compassion that is created by his servants. The fact that these are "Prayer Quilts" reminds each of us that God gives us hope. These comforters are a powerful statement of our faith, and a testimony of our belief in God and the power of prayer.
You can be a vital part of this ministry as you pray for the recipients of the prayer quilts and the Prayer Quilt Ministry at Abernethy United Methodist Church.
